How About Just Two XFCE Releases based on Ubuntu and Debian?

Post by manmath »

No need to reiterate that many are not happy the way gnome 3, gnome shell and unity going. Obviously, that's why the good Mint people are working MATE and Cinnamon. That said, how about just two releases based on XFCE, i.e., Xubuntu and Wheezy XFCE. I'd like to know how much difference is there between the good old gnome 2 and the current xfce, usability-wise?
Can't we bend XFCE to behave like gnome 2? Won't it result in better, quality release? Just my thought.

While the LinuxMint Dev Team has recently increased in size . . .

Compared to an OS-distro like Ubuntu, the Mint Dev/Testing Team is relatively small.

Takes too much, time and problems, to build and maintain so many different versions/releases.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Fortunately - adding another Desktop Environment or Window Manager is easy to do in Linux.

A simple " apt-get install " . . . is just a few clicks away. :D
