be more desktop specific!

Postby zomzilla on Thu Feb 02, 2012 11:43 am

well this is initially just to do with the kernel; but it surely applies elsewhere too

Linux mint must be used almost solely for Desktop/PC use

so why dont the mint team include the -ck patches and set the pre emption to low-latency?

this is what i would want at least; as the reason i use linux is the lovely speed and lack of 'OMG this background program is hungry im a slow your webs down' that you get with other OS's

Guys?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Can you please add some background info and links to the -ck patches?

the ck patchset is a set of patches by con kolivas

the main one is the BFS cpu scheduler which will NOT improve performance (what everyone assumes) but WILL improve responsiveness
http://users.on.net/~ckolivas/kernel/

the latency thing is a setting build into the kernel

other possibilities include the BFQ i/o scheduler which is supposed to be very worthwhile, but i have yet to get to work
