Added flash plugin for flashplugin-nonfree or adobe-flashplugin.
Added java plugin for sun-java6-plugin

Songbird uses gstreamer, maybe their is a way to get WMA and ACC to work, if you know the .so files to use.
Songbird uses its own gstreamer and lib folders.

I have been lurking around here for a while - its a great place and I have found all the answers to my questions so far (I am a recent Acer Aspire One user and Linux noob). This is my only remaining problem. How do I get Songbird to play anything? I have Gstreamer installed normally (as all Mint users do). I can't play any mp3 or aac files, getting an internal gstreamer error.
I have not been able to find an answer to this one yet... maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing?
So far I have looked at ~/.gstreamer-0.10 and ~/.songbird2/7l9gqnyn.default/gstreamer-0.10 they both have differently named registry bin files (sorry, I don't know what that means yet) but nothing else. So where are the gstreamer files installed and where are these ".so" files you reference? Sorry for the noobiness, I've been a Linux user for a few weeks and a Mint user since the day Mint 6 became official. I just want to get Songbird working and I'll be complete!

The Linux version doesn't play acc and the mp3s can't use drm.

Hmm, well my mp3's don't have DRM (actually, I thought mp3s could never have DRM anyway) and Songbird played DRM-free AAC files when I had Mandriva One 2009 installed on my laptop. Are you sure there is no way to get it to work in Linux Mint? Thanks for the help, but I'm not convinced it can't be done yet  .

EDIT: After looking around the internet for a while, it looks like AAC playback is an issue with Ubuntu mainly. Still not sure about the mp3 issue, though.

I've been having this problem too, which is a shame since I got really excited about Songbird.

Problem is still ongoing, but it's been posted on "get Satisfaction" here:

So hopefully, an answer isn't too far off.

Has anyone else had a problem with this package? On my system I get this error: Internal Gstreamer Error: Negotiation Problem

I also tried a .deb from getdeb.net and get the same error. You can follow the progress of it here on getsatisfaction.com

http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/top ... on_problem

As you might read I was instructed to download the tar.gz straight from Songbirds website and run songbird.sh. When I rut it straight from the tar.gz its fine, but any of the .debs spit out the above error.

Just wanted to pass that along.

Which edition?
Linux mint 5 or 6?
It works fine on my system.(but I really don't use it)

Try renaming ~/.songbird2 to ~/.songbird2.bak
Then start the app.

I'm working on a new source that compiles it.
This will allow clem to compile a 64bit version.

Hey Merlwiz79 I'm using Mint 6. I've tried deleting the home folder and starting from scratch. I think thats what renaming .songbird2 to songbird2.bak would do, right? Force creation of a new profile.

Good luck with your new source.

Ok, I have the new source and it now works much better.
I have it set to use plugins in /usr/lib/mozilla and /usr/lib/songbird-addons.
Meaning you now have flash when Firefox 3.0 has it and any other plugin.(example mplayer plugins)
Also it now uses the system gstreamer.
I ripped a cd to .m4a(acc) and it works for me.
It also works for my mp3s so that should fix everything.
I only am compiling for Felecia and it should be in the community repo later today.(songbird_1.0.0-0mint4_i386.deb)

Thanks Merlwiz79! I'll take a look at this one and see if it works out for me.

I'll post back with the results.
