2 Repository Questions....

1) When will a Mint "community" repo be available for Mint 8? I'm guessing it's too early now?

2) Will Mint, one day, become independent. Meaning no Ubuntu repos, just Mint repos. Making it truly it's own Debian based distro.

In these forums Mint developers have indicated that using/following Ubuntu is an advantage for them
--they wouldn't have any reason to duplicate Ubuntu repositories inside mint

They have also discussed the Debian vs Ubuntu for Mint decision, and so far have come down for favoring Ubuntu

I actually think the rolling release method that Debian uses is better, than the crash and burn method (new release) that Ubuntu uses, but it seems that buzz and new release hold more sway

--probably not just with Mint, but in the general population, which sees new as meaning better, instead of just another step in the road..
