Mint 12 - Log File Viewer is empty

Clean install of Mint 12 and updates. When I open the "Log File Viewer" it shows no logs at all. (About shows Log Viewer version 3.2.1). This has always worked before in Mint 11, 10, 9... I have checked and I see lots of logs in my /var/log/ directory.

Anyone have any ideas how to get the Log File Viewer to re-associate itself to the logs? Perhaps this is a new bug, but I thought I'd check here before getting trigger happy.

load the logs you like to see and next time they're back.

What do you mean exactly: "load the log files" ??

I think what he means by "load the log files" to Open the Log File Viewer and Then select File, Open and then browse to /var/log and then select a single log file. Repeat as many times as there are logs you want to view.

I've tried this and the files opened seem persistent - that is they are reopened after the Log Viewer is closed and re-launched.

So, I've got a fix, but this probably is a bug. Most newbies would not know how to do this. As an experienced user (3 years with Mint, 3 with Ubuntu before), it isn't exactly obvious. It is also a deviation from all the preceding releases where the Log Viewer worked out of the box with most logs visible by default.
