Disable Refresh On Open?

Postby curt_grymala on Sat Jul 11, 2009 10:46 am

I have a flaky Internet connection that can sometimes be extremely slow. As a result, when I click on the MintUpdate icon sometimes after I notice there are updates available, it can take up to 10 minutes (sometimes longer) to actually open, because it automatically refreshes the list of available updates when I open it.

It would be nice if there was some way to disable this. I already have it set to auto refresh often enough; what's the point of it refreshing again just because I opened it to see what updates were available? The list was obviously already populated before I opened it, because it told me how many updates were available. However, upon clicking the little icon, it always refreshes the list anyway.

As I said, I would like a way to disable that particular feature in MintUpdate. If I really feel it's necessary to refresh the list of updates before I actually install them, I always have the option to click the "Refresh" button.

I'm not asking for this feature to be disabled by default; as I understand that it makes sense and is not inconvenient for the majority of the users with fast connections. However, for those of us with slow connections, it would be nice to have the option. Thank you.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

The only way I've found to speed this up is to open Mint Update>Edit>Preferences>Update Method, then change the startup delay to 0 and leave the "Internet check" field blank.
