[Solved] Creating a group that may perform updates

Postby sagedining on Wed Jul 14, 2010 12:43 pm

All,

I'm attempting to allow a non privileged desktop user to perform updates through mintUpdate.

I'm referencing this post https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-discuss/2008-January/002866.html in attempting to do this, so I think I can accomplish this by creating a group and adding the user to the group.

Is it possible to create this group in a way that only allows access to minUpdate. I want them to be able to install their updates but not just install and uninstall software as they please.

UPDATE

I've made some progress. I've added /usr/bin/mintupdate to the my sudoers file for my user. Now the update icon does not give me permission errors when I click on it, but it still does not open upon entering my password. Any suggestions?

UPDATE 2

Solved. also added the mintupdate command from Startup Applications to the sudoers file and it works like a charm. Hooray for solving your own problems...

Thanks,

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.
