Software Manager not working

Postby mandolyte on Wed Dec 21, 2011 11:48 pm

Using new install of LM 12. The software manager starts and allows me to search, etc. But when I click the install button, I am prompted to authenticate; I enter my password and the dialog goes away; and after a moment the install button disappears; but nothing is ever installed, nor do I have any error messages. I tried with several packages and all exhibit the same behavior.

Not sure it is related, but when I click refresh on the update manager, it complains that I have "1 broken package on your system! Use broken filter to locate it." Can't find any such filter. Any ideas?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

IIrc, the Fix broken packages command is somewhere in the menubar of the Package Manager.

Using the package manager did the trick. I think all my troubles were because I restored a software list from LM10... Next time I'll just take note of the packages I need and re-install from scratch. Since software was restored with odd permissions (execute missing sometimes), I also ended up:
- completely removing chromium and re-installing
- sudo rm -rf ~/.libreoffice (office wouldn't start because it couldn't update some file)
- then re-installing libreoffice

I think I'm all good now...

You can fix with the easy way:
sudo apt-get install -f
