BTW... I used SID for about 5 years, so I'm used to living on the edge
What brought me to Debian was one-stop shopping.
What brought me to SID was apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade.

I had similar issues which turned out to be hardware.

Had the exact same problem(s)...until I installed the kernel back-ports. Fixed everything.
