Need help with software!! plz help

Hey guys whats up!! i'm new to linux i was using windows vista and 7 but i'm using linux mint 8 helena 64 bit now and i really like it so far!! i just want to know if there is any software for my webcam its a built in laptop webcam and also want to know if there is any software for recording my descktop to do screencast and stuff i would really apreciate if any one plz help me out with software. i have tried using ubuntu 9.10 and there is software for it but i had a lot of problems with ubuntu and i like mint better i really need this kind of software thanks for reading guys have a good one!!!

For the webcam, you can try "Cheese". It's available from Synaptic Package Manager (if the repos are back on line). Just search cheese, mark it for installation, and click Install.
