tightvncserver + lxde

Not really a how to but I have not seen this anywhere else

If you have problems getting tightvnc server running (You get a blank gray screen), it is because even though your distro may include lxde out of the box, you still need to download lxde via apt as though you wanted to add it to a system to coexist with other desktop managers. Tightvncserver (all of them I imagine, but I used tight), can only use the standard LXDE components, even though your distro has LXDE installed already! Also don't forget to start helper programs like lxpanel.
