Install Adobe Flash in Mint

Post by jamvaru »

How to install or fix your flash installation in Linux Mint

1. Open Synaptic ; under administration menu
2. Search 'Adobe'
3. find, scroll down to, Adobe Flash Player plugin installer, which is titled 'flashplugin-installer'
4. right click and click 'mark for installation', or double click
5. click 'apply' in the toolbar

if it is already installed, then right click and click re-install

if that doesn't fix it, then check to see what other 'flash' files are installed; scroll down

only 'mint-flashplugin-11' should be installed, uninstall everything else
THEN
re-install 'flashplugin-installer'

does this work for you? y/n

good luck

Keep in mind that Adobe no longer provide any newer versions of Flash for Linux. Newer versions will only be made available for Chrome/Chromium as an API ("Pepper" Flash player). Adobe will provide security updates but this also will stop in 2017. The version available in synaptic is the latest version of Flash.

And another hint, the mint-flashplugin is a bit older than the adobe-flashplugin, so best is to install the Adobe Flash plugin.

On my older computer, the newer adobe-flashplugin doesn't work. I'm using mint-flashplugin and simply click the flash window after it tells me to update. It's one extra step, but I"m not buying a new computer/video card just to save a few clicks.
