Mint 15 KDE and Rhythmbox

Post by tannhaus »

I didn't know where to post this, so I posted it here. Rhythmbox does not have gstreamer1 plugins as a prerequisite. However, it will hang trying to import your music libraries saying it needs an mp3 decoder. If you go into preferences and try to get a plugin there, it will tell you it cannot find it. The only way you can get it to install these is to click export problems (which shows up by your playlists and options....hard to notice) and it will tell you there that it needs an mp3 decoder and the codec for mpeg-4 AAC. It will work right and then download it from there and fix itself.

Thank you, this took me four hours to resolve.
I tried this
Type below command in terminal for fix the issue

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
the install additional codecs from edit>music>mp3

and uninstalling then reinstalling rhythmbox

and deleting my entire music folder and redownloading it from my external drive

and all the silly gstreamer posts

what finally did it >>

I clicked on "import errors" on the left side of the screen (near the playlists)
I needed a bunch of codecs
in the bottom right corner clicked the install plugins

and waited 10 minutes while it figured out what it was supposed to do...

then it was pretty much next next, yes yes

patience helped me resolve this issue... and you!!! thank you :)
