HowTo: Fix ugly blurry nautilus thumbnails

You might have noticed with Hardy and hence with Elyssa came these ugly blurry thumbnail previews when previewing small images and also the addition of ugly black borders around each thumbnail. I found a topic on the Ubuntu forums for a way to restore it to how it was previously in the older versions of Ubuntu and Mint.

Follow the instructions on the 3rd post of this topic if you are interested and remember to refresh the nautilus window and desktop (f5) once completed in order to see the changes!

Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

To save you the trouble to go to the Ubuntu forum here's the solution
1. Open a terminal type in gconf-editor and hit enter.
2. Look under apps > nautilus > icon view
3. Right click on Thubmnail_size and choose Edit Key
4. Change 96 to zero
5. enter the following command
Code: Select all
rm -f ~/.thumbnails/normal/*

6. Close all open nautilus windows and open them again.

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
