Get Compiz Fusion with Sphere in Gnome, KDE, & XFCE

Postby merlwiz79 on Sun Sep 07, 2008 10:37 pm

A screenshot of what it looks like: viewtopic.php?p=100934#p100934

Install with mintInstall:
Gnome and XFCE:
http://www.box.net/shared/708hg9t07k

KDE CE compiz-kde updgrade
http://www.box.net/shared/mr9udnxxdy

Get the Sphere:
You can now go to System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager and enable Cube Reflection and Deformation
Change Deformation to sphere.
Change in General Horizontal Virtual size to 4

XFCE Defaults:
General --> Display Settings --> Texture Filter --> Fast
General --> Focus & Raise Behaviour --> Focus Prevention Level --> Off

If you want to keep getting updates add these to /etc/apt/sources.list
Code: Select all
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/compiz/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/compiz/ubuntu hardy main

May have to reboot before it works.
Any problems enabling Sphere download and extract this file.
Gnome and XFCE only not KDE
sphere.profile.tar.gz
(7.23 KiB) Downloaded 257 times
Then open CompizConfig Settings Manager --> Preferences
Now Click Import and import the sphere.profile.
Alt + F2 and Run compiz & to restart compiz.

What's the difference between sphere and cube? Is it only changing the way it looks?

Sorry but I don't have KDE installed yet, plan on doing that to day.
Then I can make a .mint file.

Added a mintInstall file for KDE should work perfectly.

I tried this on KDE and it broke my cube. :(

Now, instead of a sphere or cube, I have a two-sided sheet. Can anyone help me with this?

EDIT: Nevermind, I got it. I'm really digging it!

Thanks for posting this! It works like a charm and I love both the sphere and cylinder, they look really awesome!

I've tried to get these by reading tutorials on the net but I found them to be extremely confusing and complicated. But the link we are given here is really easy and with no stress at all, gives me another reason to love Linux Mint!

For some reason I can't bend my windows down or up by the corners anymore eventhough they're still wobbly but it's not really a big deal. I'm just glad I finally got this to work! :)
