"HowTo install Qiana KDE on a Linux multiboot system"
but many steps are matching if you install Qiana as single Mint.
Important differences:
1. The partitions cuold be primary or a mix of primary / logical - depends on your wishes.
2. Boot Loader target: Master Boot Record of the first hard disk (MBR, e.g. /dev/sda).
For questions, please open an own thread and attach a screenshot of KDE Partition Manager (or GParted for other editions)!

Preliminary note
My Hardware:
Code: Select all
sudo lshw
Code: Select all
BIOS vendor: American Megatrends Inc.
memory: size: 4GiB
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M
SSD: ATA Disk product: M4-CT256M4SSD2
...
WiFi up to 1 MB/s
My partition table is no exemplar;
I tested many dsitributions and file systems, places where to place swap,...
thus out of order, but never a problem.
Code: Select all
seeley@seeley-Q:~ > sudo parted -l print
Code: Select all
Disk /dev/sda: 256GB
Number Start End Size Type File system
1
2 211MB 6653MB 6442MB primary linux-swap(v1) swap
3 6653MB 38,9GB 32,2GB primary fat32 DATA
4 38,9GB 241GB 202GB extended
13 209GB 217GB 8590MB logical ext4 homeQKDE
17 228GB 241GB 12,9GB logical ext4 rootQKDE
root, home, swap, DATA and if you want to choose XFS or BTRF as file system, an own boot (up to 256 MB).
Size of partitions depends on your hardware and wishes, 2 suggestions: root > 12 GB, swap = 1,5 * RAM.
Where you establish your swap is irrelevant.
If you want to install a fresh Linux multiboot, I recommend to choose 3 primary partitions as root partitions for 3 Linux distributions,
partition number 4 as EXTENDED and within that partition several logical partitions: swap, DATA, home1,...
In my case, MAYA and Petra were installed before and I formatted 2 logical partitions (/dev/sda17: root and sda13: home);
the boot loader Grub2 therefore has to be installed in the PBR of Qiana, that means in the root partition /dev/sda17.
But warning! In the following cases, Grub must be installed in a different place:
> First Linux to install: in MBR of the first hd / SSD
> Multiboot and File system XFS or BTRFS: in an own boot partition.
My Installation process:
Language
Wireless
Prepare
Disk setup
Timezone
Keyboard
User Info
Install
2 notes on the installer:
1. The wrong keyboard could be a problem, so it would be better if you were able to earlier choose it (in some distributions you can choose it at boot time of the live medium).
2. The real installtion took 6 (!) minutes (partitions prepared with GParted), thus there is no need for an early "install now".
Why there is no summary before installation starts. Unsure users could ask if everything is okay - attaching a screenshot (see other distris).
Let's begin with the Disk Setup
I don't recommend installation type Guided, because I don't trust any automatism.
I always choose Manual (or similar).
