Broadcom BCM4310 Wireless

Postby whatsvictory on Tue Sep 23, 2008 3:38 pm

As it turns out the BCM4310 uses a more specific version of the bcmwl5 than the one provided with Elyssa and fwcutter is not compatable with this wifi card. To get it working download the proper driver from http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R174291.exe from the Dell site and follow the instructions from http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Tech/Wireless/Truemobile_ndiswrapper also on the Dell site. Because the download may not be located in the /tmp directory like in the instructions from Dell (because like me you may have to download from a Windows partition) you can open the folder you have placed the R174291.exe in then right click>open terminal here and type " unzip R174291.exe " from here your driver will be in the "DRIVER_US" folder. The BCM4310 wifi card is a problem for many people because that one certain driver is somewhat difficult to find for most people so I hope others find this post & it helps them on their way in the wonderful world of Mint.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I have a 4310 which I got working perfectly (apart from some difficulties to connect - usually happens on the second attempt) following this guide
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD ... ca757b2851
I recommend that one for all bcm43xx

Thanks Husse. That is a good guide. I found my info on Collin's blog from a google search. For some reason it seemed to take me an eternity to even find it & oddly couldn't seem to pinpoint anything on Ubuntu for a long time. Thanks again....PEACE...What

MAKE THIS A STICKY.

I have an hp Pavilion ze440 laptop with a 4306 card in it, and I've tried everything. I tried Xubuntu (7.10 Gutsy), Slax (just goofing around), and now I'm using Mint. I followed the instructions in that link and I have perfect, stable wireless internet. Sure, it was 15 minutes of straight terminal, but it's Linux...what, you think you can just click and it works!?

I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL for that link!

Finally!
