As some of you probably know, yesterday Github was blocked in Russia, so I wrote this easy to follow guide for Mint 17:

Re: Easy guide on how to setup TOR
Nice, but why not use the Tor browser bundle?

Re: Easy guide on how to setup TOR
so... still no easy way of oppening the darn thing... even with the 'no install just download' bundle
plus... fortunately for me i'm not in Russia so the full tor redirect trafic isn't all that appealing.
Anyone with a simpler way to just run TOR as a browser?

Re: Easy guide on how to setup TOR
Easy opening of the TOR browser bundle simply needs the creation of a launcher.. how you do this depends on which Desktop Environment you are using and which edition of mint. The command to start it, and enter into the launcher, is just the location of the 'start-tor-browser' link in the Tor directory (once extracted).
My Tor bundle is in my home directory, to make swapping it for newer versions simple for me, so the command for me is- /home/<my username>/tor-browser_en-US/start-tor-browser -where <my user name> is my actual user name.
Hope this helps

Re: Easy guide on how to setup TOR
It's better to install it from PPA using a package manager.

Re: Easy guide on how to setup TOR
Tor is already in the repository, simply install, then open firefox and set it to use socks host 127.0.0.1 port 9050. edit>preferences>advanced>network>settings and choose manual proxy settings
to use with privoxy,if you are using a default Tor configuration and run it on the same system as Privoxy, you just have to edit the forwarding section in etc/privoxy/config and uncomment the line:
# forward-socks5t / 127.0.0.1:9050
set firefox to system proxy
and set system>preferences>network proxy to manual proxy
To quick launch torbrowser just stick a launcher icon on the panel with the command tor-browser_en-US/start-tor-browser

Re: Easy guide on how to setup TOR
I used Tor Budle once but gave me a lot of errors and I had to reinstall bundle again and same thing happened with a friend. I also prefer to download directly from torproject.org and I will do that once I have my Mint installed.
Well done tutorial, going to give a try tomorrow!
Thank you sir.
