Installing AWN for newbies

AWN (avant window navigator) is a great option for all you mac-converts and dock junkies.

To install
In terminal type
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Gedit a text editor will open scroll to the bottom then add these two lines to the end
Code: Select all
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/reacocard-awn/ubuntu hardy main

Next update Aptiude by typing in terminal
Code: Select all
sudo aptitude update

Then complete install with
Code: Select all
sudo aptitude install avant-window-navigator-bzr awn-core-applets-bzr

After installation is complete type
Code: Select all
avant-window-navigator

Configure to your liking

After this is complete to start at startup go to
System > Preferences > Sessions

Add+

Name: Avant Window Navigator
Comand: avant-window-navigator

Isn't avn in the default repositories?

Or at least I think it's in one of the commented repo's in sources.list?

That repo isn't maintained that well any more. I recomend using the awn testing teams repo instead. I explain how to do that here

piratesmack: it is in the default repos. If you are still using mint5 it is missing most of the plugins.
