mint out of the box

MInt's clam to fame is the video working out of the box. My avi and wmv video files do not play with any video player.

I did download and install a lot of file and got the avi to play, but not the wmv.

IT'S hunt and peck. Trial and error. Mainstream LInux, where are you?

That said Mint did play the videos on youtube and my mpg's. Some of the other distro's did not do that.

Mplayer plays wmv - if not, do you get any error messages?

Right click on Mplayer screen/Preferences
Set Video x11, audio alsa, do same when mplayer comes up embedded in
Firefox, to watch streaming video
