Laptop to TV

Postby willwool on Fri Mar 06, 2009 10:43 am

Hello,

I am relatively new to Mint, and have installed Elyssa onto an Samsung V25 laptop. Its good to be away from windows, and so far happy days...
Although one small problem, i would like to watch the videos i have on my laptop on my TV. I have bought a DVI to Scart lead (Blue 15 pin to scart), but from there i am at a loss.
Can anyone assist with an idiots guide to giving me an extra output to view my videos.
All assistance is welcome, the more detailed the better.
Many thanks

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Did you try using the screen resolution tool?
What kind of results if any have you got so far?

Yup, and once you have got it plugged in you might need to reboot for the laptop to recognise your TV. After that go into Screen Resolution as suggested to choose the right monitor and setup the correct resolution. See how you go.

Followed the advice, the following happened.

connected the laptop through the scart lead into the tv
booted up laptop
during boot the tv screen showed signs of the boot process, shadowed images that you may of seen 20 years ago on an old tv
when screen saver came up, nothing but fuzz on tv screen
went to screen resolution tool
an "unknown monitor" was found
clicked apply
laptop went blank and no change to tv screen :(

Any ideas???

Thanks for the ideas so far, but more is welcome...
