Perhaps before we do that, we might see if there is a willing soul (guinea pig) out there that is trying to do this also, and see what their results are.
have a hunch, since I did NOT modify the /boot/grub/device.map, until after the upgrade to 7.04 (leaving me with a un-bootable drive (fell back to Mint boot and mounted the Feisty drive, found the error of my ways, fixed device.map by,
changing the uuids in menu.lst (upgrade did leave sdb1 references but the uuid it had where for sda1 (Biancas drive) so had to replace them, and like magic the drive is bootable.
after re-checking /boot/grub/menu.lst 3 re-boot s later, to my surprise no more
root=/dev/sd.. anywhere. and folder /dev/disk also gone.
I'm assuming that is new in Feisty:-)
Also need to find a cheap (time-wise) of getting the default boot drive order accomplished short of a kernal change on Bianca that is
