Re: How to Install VMware player in Mint 7
Thanx for this. Tried to install it and gave up and just installed Virtualbox from the repos.
Re: How to Install VMware player in Mint 7
I've tried this but to no avail. Previously I was running ubuntu 8.10 and had no problems installing Player. When Mint 7 was released I decided to install and love it but I need to get Player working. Any other suggestions? All current updates have been installed. I checked the "Allow executing file as program" but it didn't show up in the menu.
Thanks for the help

Re: How to Install VMware player in Mint 7
I actually thought it was the Mint release also until I backed up and tried to install the previous VMware bundle 126130 which installed without a hitch. ?? Have no clue what the problem was but I'm a happy camper now. I might not be running the current bundle but everything is great at the moment. I really like Gloria and plan on stopping distro hopping.
Re: How to Install VMware player in Mint 7
I had no success until i downloaded the ".BUNDLE" version
i then changed the permissions to allow execution, and ran:
sudo ./MYOBxxxxxx.BUNDLE
Worked a treat. GUI installer and everything.

Re: How to Install VMware player in Mint 7
A variation on that which worked for me is this:ulgolog wrote:sorry,
it should read:
then I ran the tool with:
alien -d -c VMware-Player-2.5.2-156735.i386.rpm
(in the same terminal window)
I used Firefox (in it's default configuration) to Download VMware Player (and FF put it in/on the desktop).
in the terminal type ls to list the files & directories. (That's lowercase LS)
See that one is called Desktop (with a capital D)
cd Desktop to change to the Desktop directory
ls to check that the VMware Player (RPM) file is there
Highlight the filename
Copy the highlighted text
sudo alien -d -c VMware-Player-2.5.3-185404.i386.rpm
Wait until you get the message vmware-player_2.5.3-185405_i386.deb generated
ls to check that the file really is there.
In your File Manager (Nautilus) double click on the vmware-player_2.5.3-185405_i386.deb file (or whatever it's called when you do this)
This will/should start the gdebi-gtk Package Installer
Click the Install Package button
Type in your password when asked
When this has finished, close the various windows and you should find a vmware player entry in the Mint All Applications menu.
