You can do it all manually. Firefox settings go to ~/.mozilla/firefox/ and Thunderbird settings go to ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/ ... Find out where Windows stores those settings (e.g. Documents and Settings/Username/Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/xxxx_something-random-here_xxxx/ ), then you can copy the content of those folders 1:1 over to your Linux home folder.

Example --valid for my system; your's might be slightly different--

My German Windows XP stored my Firefox settings in this folder:
Dokumente und Einstellungen/myUserName/Anwendungsdaten/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/w8kb6xsm.default/

So the contents of that folder ... :
  • dr-x------ 1 root root 8192 May 11 22:50 ./
    dr-x------ 1 root root 0 Oct 2 2004 ../
    dr-x------ 1 root root 0 Aug 19 2005 Cache.Trash/

... go here on Linux:
~/.mozilla/firefox/default.rku/

Voila, done. Everything preserved. With Thunderbird it's similar.

Dokumente und Einstellungen
Thought that was always untranslated - Documents and Settings
No MInt question though - but good to know that it may be translated in another case like this :)
