Here are a couple of threads with quite a few links and suggestions on where to start and what to read to help you understand Linux. One theme running all through them ( and the best advice I could give you ) is "Just do it" . Get in there and try things. Read the sources mentioned while sitting at your computer and try the techniques described as you read.

Also, read the first 8-9 threads at the beginning of the Newbie Questions Section. They are stickied there for good reasons.
