Hello Adler. I went to you website cool site. Did you try that command with emerald on the end of it?

compiz --replace -c emerald &

Works great for me. :) I have my favorite themes.

I'm going to try your how to for recording my desktop. I have family and friends I want to show off to .... I mean I want to get them interested in Linux - preferably Mint.

newW2,

Still not having much success here.

I use alt + F2 with the code
compiz --replace -c emerald &

Fusion launches, but I loose my window border. When I launch Terminal there is just a white space. Hmm...

I have imported one Beryl Theme into Emerald. Am I using the wrong type of theme?

PS Thanks for the comments on my Site.

I guess I would try the old standby for the white screen:

sudo nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visual

Also I had tested an xorg reconfig solutions before posting and ended up having to re-run envy, the next time around. Sounds like you have all but the themes though. I always have to re-run the visual command after playing in another sand-box. :)

newW2,

You may have misunderstood me. I'm not getting a White Screen, but when I launch "Terminal", it launches, but is all white, with no Task Bar, which makes trying to close it an interesting experience of "Hunt & Peck". LOL!

To add to that, my Task Bar is missing for all and any Windows when I lunch Fusion using alt + F2, or try adding code to Sessions to get Fusion to launch on Boot. However, all those cool effects are there!

I've been to other Forums, and it does appear to work, but not on my machine. I'll keep watching to see what improves.

Thanks for your reply.

Does anybody know or seen if Compiz usion works with nvidia legacy cards? Specifically for laptops, such a geforce4 mx Series. Been scouring google but still no confirmation.

however, emerald is not working or not enabled. how do i do this?

also, if i wanted to turn off compiz(only gyod knows why?!) how would i restart it? reboot? there should be an icon i could click...

aparently there is an icon and it is not in our repo. i tried the apt-get install icon bit but doesn't find icon. go here to read more about it.

great work! thanks for your help. -Dave.

Did you try exploder's how to on the previous page?

once you have right-clicked on the panel bar and entered the command info etc. click on the icon box (top LHS) you'll see all the icons that you can choose from. I used the green emerald gem.

Guys,

I'm back to Beryl, and the Emerald themes. Full stop, as the British say. Happily doing my thing, and showing off my Desktops, then posting to YouTube.

Actually -- I don't see any advantages to trying Fusion. Unless they have a manager out there in the near future.

Then I'll convert. As far as I can tell Beryl "out of the box" with Cassandra was the best thing that I'd ever dealt with. And, I compiled a good deal of things from source.

Consider me stupid, but there has been a great deal of changes with Compiz / Beryl in the past. Will Fusion really be the future?

I'm rocking with Beryl right now.

Hi Guys,

I've been all over a bunch of Forums trying not to loose my Windows Decorator ? Borders when I launch Fusion / Emerald.

I've tried it all in Terminal, and Alt + F2. No luck.

Are the repos up-dating? I've not seen that in the last week or so.

Finally, why isn't there a simple Fusion Windows Decorator out there by now? I mean why fight getting those Emerald Themes going?

It almost makes me want to go back to Beryl.

That's *precisely* where I am staying right now. Compiz-Fusion is too new and for my gusto still too unstable, so I'd suggest to stay away ... for now.

compiz fusion is ok, but im back to vanilla compiz, beryl and fusion are just too unstable.

I just made two seperate entries in my sessions manager:

Compiz --replace
Emerald --replace

That did the trick for me
the_necrocide,

Thanks for that, but I did add the two commands to Sessions, but no luck.

Thanks for those comments guys I thought I was alone in not getting this going!

the_necrocide,

Thanks -- I made the changes, but still no luck. Fusion launches, but no Window Decorator. I am trying to use one that I got off of Gnome-Look.org e.g. 49060-Scaled Black MacTru.emerald.

Again, if I launch Terminal it is just a white square.

the_necrocide,

I just un-checked Emerald e.g. emerald --replace in Sessions, and then re-booted. Same problem -- no Window Decorator. hen I went to Terminal and wanted to enter "emerald --replace to see what happens. However, when I launched Terminal it is only a white square. I've mentioned this before.

I am running a Notebook with a NVidia GForce vid card, and have enabled the latest NVidia Drivers. So my card is a nVidia Corporation C51 [Geforce 6150 Go]

the_necrocide,

Thank You! I followed your suggestions and edited my Xorg file.

As you can see below I've not only got my Window Decorator back, but also when I launch Terminal it actually opens as it should.

Thanks again!

the_necrocide,

Thanks again for the support.

The Wallpaper is part of a Gnome Desktop Theme called KillBill_tar.gz, and has its own log-in screen.

If you want it, PIM me with an e-mail address.

Hi All,

There was a compiz-Fusion up-date in the repositories yesterday. I up-dated, and now a good deal of features are missing e.g. Cube, and the Key Stoke Controller to launch effects.

Anybody else seeing this?
