Tips and Tricks: mintDesktop hints!

Postby clem on Thu Dec 21, 2006 7:23 pm

In Bea, there's a new cool stuff called mintDesktop. One of its features is to guide you through various little things (xchat, amarok, ipod configuration..etc etc..).

This is a must read for all Bea users, so if you haven't done so, go to your Home folder, then go in Documents, and click on mintDesktop.

Alternatively (if you've deleted the link to mintDesktop) you can have a look at /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintDesktop/index.html on your system.

Very nice inclusion.

Most distros don't realize just how valuable a little document like that really is.

Keep up the great work.

when I upgraded from Barbara to Bea, Firefox couldn't find the local file to the mintDesktop HowTo (the one in the /usr directory). Dunno why it couldn't find it because it was there, however I found the one in the /Documents folder and checked that one out. For, Bianca can we add a simple tutorial to illustrate how to remove the desktop icons? I think that would be helpful for those that don't know how to remove them.

I've actually just got done with the new suggested additions/changes to that mintDesktop.html file that is included with Bea. It doesn't look like you can attach files to this forum (or I can't see how to do it). I'd be happy to post it or email it to whomever for review/revision requests.

What do you say Clem?

I'm at work so I'll email it over when I get home later on tonight...
I added a few graphics and made it valid XHTML 1.0 and also added a local style sheet. I don't know if you were file size conscious...well take a look and let me know what you think.
