Howto: ATI, nVidia, Matrox drivers

I followed those step for my Nvidia card and it did not work. What DID work was this.
1) install nvidia-kernel-source from synaptic.
2) Exit X and go into shell Ctrl-Alt-F1
3) Log in
4) Run this command. sudo /usr/bin/envy Then choose "1" to install then "Y" to change xorg.conf then "Y" again to restart X.
