I've been using GDesklets for a while, and after a fresh Cassandra install, installing GDesklets with Synaptic wasn't enough.
I found my usual OSX Clock, but very few of the available options didn't bring me joy. Especially, the weather applets, which didn't seem to work.
Here's the source that I've used for both Weather (Good Weather), and Quotes that are part of my Desktop.

Pick what you want, download it, then open GDeskets, and add it by right clicking GDesklets in your tray, then clicking Manage desklets. Click File, and add the Desklet where you downloaded it.
To make sure that all is cool on boot I've added this to Sessions:
GDesklets
/usr/bin/gdesklets
Of course, I'm running compiz-fusion with those neat 3D Desktop effects, but I love that Eye-Candy.
Enjoy -- and if you have any questions just ask.
