Beryl on a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop

I have read many forums about Beryl and using ATI Graphics cards... I have tried all the ones I have found. My Dell has an Express 200m ati graphics card with 256mb ram. It is listed as able to work with 3d effects, and I have used Beryl on Pclinuxos with no problems so I know it works. I was just wondering if anyone has had any luck getting it to work on Mint. I have tried all the suggestions in the Ubuntu Forums...still no luck I am running the latest ATI driver (38.6). I also have installed compiz-fusion. Anything to do with 3d effects just refuse to work. Any help would be appreciated.
