same way you transfer songs from your music library to the ipod. Open rhythmbox and just drag and drop from your ipod to your music library.

I am pretty sure this doesn't work with my Ipod Touch...I heard we have to use ssh now.

When i was on LM8 gnome this worked perfectly. I reconmmend using LM9 as the software will already be installed. Meaning your ipod touch should automatically be detected and mounted by linux mint.

To copy the music just click on the artist or album name you want to copy so that it is highlighted, then drag & drop the artist or album name by holding down the left-click of your mouse on the name of the artist or album from the list, you will notice the cursor will have a file beside it when you move your mouse, then move your mouse over to your ipod/iphone in the tab, you will see the that the ipod/iphone name will be hightlighted, let go of the left-click of your mouse while you have the ipod/ipodtouch/iphone name highlighted

That just freezes Rhythmbox and slows my laptop down for a while

probaly because it is using alot of the your laptop's hard drive's speed to copy the music. So it has less speed for accessing other files making the laptop slower.

try copying a couple songs at a time and see if it still freezes. Im no longer using linux mint 8 so cant really help that much.

i really cant think of anything that would cause this error. im using linux mint 9 now which out-of-the-box syncs with ipods/iphone, you should maybe try it in LiveCD mode or install it and see if the problem occurs on on it 2

if you really want to transfer music to your ipod / iphone then use a new distro release like LM9 or ubuntu 10.04

I haven't yet upgraded to Mint 9 (on my list of things to do) and my son "needed" a new song on his Ipod Touch. This guide worked perfectly for my Mint 8x64 Gnome. Thanks for posting it!

one question. I don't sync my music with itunes but I do sync other stuff with it (ie. apps, contacts, etc.)
<btw, i have a dual boot of win 7 and mint 8. Use win 7 just for keeping my iphone synced/backed up>

Would I still be able to use the phone on win 7/itunes if I "sync" through rythembox?

yeah same here. When im in mint i transfer songs to my ipod touch. then i use itunes in windows for videos and everything else.

When your using rhythmbox in mint your not really syncing your ipod/iphone like you do with itunes, your just really copying the songs over. I dont really have that much experience using itunes (not a fan) but i cant see you running into any problems.

I am having trouble copying files from cd to rythmbox. It is giving me the message "Unable to locate encoding profile for mime-type." Not sure what I am doing wrong.

When I finally thought I did it right, the copying was taking forever. Basically I just want to know how to burn music from my cds onto rythmbox. And then I'll need to figure out how to get them onto the ipod.
