Here folks is the solution to the sound problem on the HP Pavillion dv2000. I found it at this site:

I've recently done some regular updates and lost sound to my laptop speakers.

The link above loaded a rc driver which still left the problem of the laptop speakers working even with the audio/headphones plugged. I suspect that I've lost my laptop speakers as a partial fix to this problem, unless others have an alternative suggestion.

My sound still works through the audio/headphone jacks; just no onboard speakers. Not a problem for me though, unless on the road.

Update message:

I've recently updated to the Alsa rc4 driver. I had a problem compiling the driver on an clean install of Bianca.

Problem was fixed (not by sudo ./compile) by compiling in root terminal. A simple way of activating the root terminal is via:

preferences > Menu Layout > System Tools > check the box next to root terminal and reboot X to get the menu item up.

BTW, the drivers are getting better each time. This is an improvement over the pixelmonkey.org patch I posted about previously.

Cheers
