Hallo to all, i upgraded my kernel using the steps provided by this post: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=40185
and ended up with an unbootable system. My laptop has only mint installed and since the upgrade i cant get into grub to boot to the earlier kernel to remove the one that i installed. Is there an way i can do this from a live cd?
Thnx in advance for the support!

Re: uninstall kernel from live cd
When you install a new kernel, it doesn't remove/replace the old kernel. It will result in additional boot options in Grub, with your newest kernel being the default. If Grub is not showing up on boot, then it got borked somehow in the process. You need to use your live CD/DVD to reinstall grub. You'll find a howto here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2. Item #12 on the index on the right side of the page.
Mint Cinnamon 20.1

If Mint is the only OS on his PC, then GRUB 2 will boot directly to the logintdockery97 wrote:If Grub is not showing up on boot, then it got borked somehow in the process.
prompt or Desktop without displaying a menu.
Hold down SHIFT to display the hidden menu during boot, and then
select your previous kernel from the menu.

The "shift" trick revealed me the grub menu, booted with the old kernel and everything is ok. Now to remove the faulty kernel can i use synaptics? Thnx again!!

Yes you can.la_monda wrote:to remove the faulty kernel can i use synaptics? Thnx again!!
Just search Synaptic for "linux-image-2.6" and "linux-headers-2.6" and remove the offending one.
When you remove the kernel via Synaptic Package Manager, Grub2 is automatically
updated to reflect the changes. You will regain about 200mb of disk space.
