I used the second method for installation - worked perfectly
I have a 3rd method.... Install Ubuntu Tweak...
1) get Ubuntu Tweak --->[downloaded from author site]http://tinyurl.com/63xv5p6
2)install it... (go to your download folder (or other folder where you put your download ) and right click open with GDebi (the deb installer for gnome )...(if u saved in the HD).
4.Open the program.... (usually in system tools -> "Ubuntu tweak").
5.Click in the left bar (in the source center option). the program prompt have new sources and you click to update it.ok?
6. Click in the "Unlock" button. prompt for your sudo password.
7.=Warning= Its is a Possible security risk to use package from Third-Party Sources. Please be Caferul and use only sources you trust.(its says the displayed notice. click OK.
8. in the categories(left bar in the source center called "IMAGE") select this Mrw-Gimp-Svn for Matthaeus123 PPA and tick the selection
9 in the same window click "Sync" .
10.u could install GIMP in the "Application Center" in Ubuntu Tweak... or ... in Synaptic or terminal window....
10.1 (in Application center-In the same program (Ubuntu Tweak) Click in the left main menu) then click in the Image Category and click in Gimp Image Editor and finally click "apply".
10.2 In synaptic.
10.2.1 open Synaptic (usually Administration->Synaptic package manager.
10.2.2.Prompt for your password.
10.2.3 search for gimp. double click to select to install.(prompt for add some packages click "Mark")
10.2.4. Click Apply .. Wait some time....
10.3 in terminal
10.3.1. open a terminal
10.3.2 paste this ->

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gimp

The ubuntu Tweak is a powerfully tool can permit changes (that in ubuntu normally are hidden) ...use carefully ... u could screw your system.. and dont enable repositories that ...again ... can screw your linux installation (example...."could update a system file and provoke a dependency errors...")
