Keyboard volume controls in LMDE

Post by br1an »

In LMDE 10, the volume switch on my keyboard was recognized by the system but wasn't adjusting volume. Gnome was displaying the onscreen notification that volume was being adjusted, but it definitely doing anything to the master volume. Sound was working fine, and rolling the mousewheel over the volume applet in the Gnome Notification Area worked fine as well.

To fix this, I took the following steps:
1) Open a terminal
2) Run gconf-editor
3) Navigate to /desktop/gnome/sound
4) Right click on default_mixer_tracks , choose "Edit Key..."
5) Add a value named "Master"

Now the keyboard volume rocker switch adjusts the volume properly.
