If you store your CD as .iso file, you can mount it with GCDEmu - analog of Daemontools, which is the only app I know so far that can reliably mount, dismount and make files (mounted to /media) accessible to Terminal calls. (http://cdemu.net/) To install CDEmu for Gnome run:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cdemu/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cdemu-daemon cdemu-client gcdemu
After that restart and add GCDEmu applet to your panel.
To auto start GCDEmu run:
sudo gedit /etc/default/cdemu-daemon
In the editor that opens find value LOAD_DAEMON and replace 0 to 1.
To configure, choose "Use system bus".
