How to add a localized search engine

One of the nice things about Mint is that it is *not* made in the USofA.
However, it does cater for the masses of uses that do live in the USofA.

Which can be a Pain, sometimes - actually lot's of times.

another thing that is a Pain - is Search engines.

It's a Real Pain, when I search for something,
and it gives results slanted to the masses of uses that live in the USofA.

That's totally Useless.

So, after some searching, I found This site.

Just click on a Name to Install that Plugin.
it does seem to make a "search" - that little bit easier

other than changing the "start page" to some thing more local (au.yahoo.com)
( which I have seen, done on a Lot of people's PCs. )
it is tricky, to get a 'relevant search result' - that you are actually looking for.

This is just One solution, to this problem, of getting the 'right results'.

For Linux Mint 12 users, you can easily localize your DuckDuckGo default search engine:

Do a DuckDuckGo search, and at the top of the page click on the "More" button. Choose "Settings". In the second field, "Region", pick your region. This is remembered in an anonymous cookie (if you haven't disabled cookies).

If you're happy with DuckDuckGo, great It is the only search engine that shares revenue with the Linux Mint project

You can add DuckDuckGo to any combination of Mint & FF:-

click on the droplist on the left of the search bar
click on 'Manage Search Engines'
click on 'get more search engines'
type in 'DuckDuckGo" into the AddOn search area

click on the top DuckDuckGo item (ssl) to install

Then change your Region - as above.
