Mint 13 32bit - cinnamon is really mate???

I booted the live CD of Mint 13 32bit cinnamon and it looks like mate. This makes no sense to me.
I have downloaded 2 copies from different places and I get the same result.

What am I doing wrong?

logging into gnome classic maybe? just a thought. cinnamon needs 3D acelleration to work. additional drivers maybe?

I think he/she means that the menu lay-out looks identical to MATE.

Yes, they look similar. But there's a difference between MATE and Cinnamon.
MATE is a fork of the Gnome2 shell and Cinnamon is a fork of the Gnome3 shell.
