Error while installing maya Cinnamon with encrypted home

Postby Oyabunbaba on Thu May 24, 2012 3:52 pm

I have an error of “ubi-…. error 1″ It’s an window popping up when am already finishing putting name of computer and password and… when i click “encrypt home folder”
If encryption is unchecked then there is no error. When i still try to make home encrypted and dismiss the error the mint can’t boot. Right now i installed system without encryption but what is the problem when i want to encrypt home folder?

Well, I just installed LM13 Cinnamon 64 bit with an encrypted home folder, and it all went fine. So it is at least not broken for everybody. Do you perhaps have other operating systems installed, or are you trying to install it to RAID storage?

Okay, that complicates it a bit :( Just checking, are you letting the installer "use the entire disk" or are you indeed manually creating the partitions it should use?

Yes I am setting partition manually 20GB for system and rest of disk for data, no swap. I do exactly the same as with mint 12 but only with 13 i have this issue.

sda1 mounting point /
sda2 for personal data

Device for grub - sda1
or maybe i should use device for grub "WD hdd 320" ?

But no matter how i configure it is still the popping out window with error and saying the log will be in /var.......

Yes, GRUB should be installed to /dev/sda (or perhaps called by its product name as in your case), not to /dev/sda1.

Are you using Ext4 as filesystem, or something else? I'll try it also with a dual partition layout.

Hi,

I ran into the same problem.

Suggested workaround: have a swap partition.

Details:
- Maya 32 Bit (Cinnamon & MATE)
- Multiple disks, multiple OSs
- Encrypted home gives "exit code 1" without swap
- But seems to work with swap (at least for MATE)
- Did not reboot yet. 8)

Hope that helps.

Bye

Unfortunately, the last suggestion didn't help. I ran into the same problem when installing LM13 32bit Cinnamon. (I installed from a USB key I had prepared with Unetbootin, but had checked before with a DVD and it didn't work either, if that's of any importance.)

When I check "Encrypt my home folder" during the installation and then hit "continue", nothing happens for quite a while. After two or three minutes, the next window appears very briefly (for less than a second) and then the installer window just closes without further warning. When I restart my computer the system won't boot.
Before installation I deleted all partitions using gparted. I tried both "automatic" installation and setting up a swap partition and a root partition manually, neither worked. (I used ext4 filesystem and let grub install to /dev/sda, as was suggested before.) Also, I tried waiting for the copying process to finish before clicking "continue" but that didn't help either.

I have the feeling that there is something wrong when setting up the encrypted swap partition, because when I run Gparted after the unsuccesful installation procedure, there show up one proper root partition and one "extended" partition with an "unknown" file system on it, that has the size of my laptop's RAM. Obviously this was supposed to be the swap-partition.

Help would be very much appreciated, but I think this is a bug. Maybe anyone else can confirm this?

My suggested workaround would be to not encrypt the home folder during installation but do it afterwards as described here: http://blog.dustinkirkland.com/2011/02/ ... yptfs.html

edit:
Ok, sorry, apparently I was on the wrong track there... Just tried installing without the encryption and the exact same error as described above happened. So, at least for me, this is probably not an encryption-related error.
