Which version of Linux is best for AMD processor?

Recently I installed Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon on my computer. The cooling fan is now running a lot more to cool the CPU, and the computer must be placed on the A/C power adapter to charge more often. I believe that the AMD propriatary drivers were lost in the install. Should I try to install a different version like KDE, etc. ? Or, can I get the proper drivers for the AMD processor ?

You can probably get the ATI/AMD graphics driver from Additional Drivers which is in the menu. If it's not shown you can download the latest driver from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/l ... linux.aspx.

Thanks for your help !!! I have downloaded the AMD Catalyst Proprietary Display Driver from the website...
