Install Xp with USB flash in Linux Mint. SOLVED

Postby bicky on Fri Jan 04, 2013 3:49 pm

My computer is running Mint 12. I also have an Acer netbook ( no operating system ). I wish to create a bootable USB flash using my linux machine to enable me to install Xp on the Netbook. Unfortunately I must have Xp on this - to be able to access my online IRS - which does not accept Linux in any format.
I have the Windows XP installation CD, USB Flash drive and have installed UNetbootin on my Mint installation. Any guidance please.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

The sure way to create working bootable WinXP USB from WinXP CD is to use WinToFlash.
However it runs only on windows OS. So it is safer for you to borrow a WinOS computer, install WinToFlash, run it and prepare the USB stick with your WinXP original CD.

However if you MUST use only Linux OS to prepare, then, try this method ( using Virtualbox)

Thanks for this - the info is what I secretly expected but hoped for a solution - I have opted for installing Windows ( Ultimate ) 7 - this works with Unetbootin. Although running very slow will suffice just to do the IRS bit.
