[solved]Remastersys-gtk not working,missing remastersys.conf

Postby Jin Choi on Fri Mar 22, 2013 3:49 am

Hello there. I just transfered from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. It didn't work very well for me - network stopping during using torrent a lot, and compiz troubleshooting and all.

On the other hand, I just love Mint14. It doesn't have any problem, AT ALL. Perfect for me. Thanks
However, I haven't found a way of customizing my mint distro. yet, because remastersys I used to use on ubuntu didn't work on mint 14.

PLATFORM : Mint14-Mate-amd64
WHAT I'M TRYING : install remastersys-gtk (or any other working one) AND get a customized iso of mine
WHAT I DID: installed "remastersys-gtk_3.0.3-1_all.deb" from http://www.remastersys.com/downloads/ (actually i had to 'apt-get install plymouth-x11' first for dependancy problem)
MAJOR TROUBLE: On GUI clicking remastersys-gtk icon pops up for password, but won't get any further. On terminal it spat this error:
=====================================================
gksu remastersys-gtk
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./remastersys-gtk.py", line 755, in <module>
app = appgui()
File "./remastersys-gtk.py", line 72, in __init__
self.load_settings()
File "./remastersys-gtk.py", line 569, in load_settings
config_f = open("/etc/remastersys.conf")
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/etc/remastersys.conf'
=====================================================
I didn't think that we need to make our own remastersys.conf. It should be tricky to do so. So i didn't care to make one and see how it goes or so.

Please let me clarify my questions here.
1. Was anyone in the same platform as mine successful getting remastersys to work properly and eventually get your distro customized in iso file? Or remastersys of any kinds just simply don't work in mint14 mate yet?

2. If there are any ways to get around this, would you please explain? I've googled for the same or similar error and in the forum too, but simly couldn't found. Similar problems but not the same, to be exact.

p.s. This is my first question ever in any forum in my whole life, so if i made any mistakes, please educate me. Thank you all :-p

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hello, Jin Choi.

If you perform a normal Remastersys installation, the file /etc/remastersys.conf should be present.
About Rematsersys and Mint14:
Last time I used Remastersys it was on Mint 12, 32-bit. And I used an outdated version from the Ubuntu 10.04 era. Yet, it worked perfectly fine.
In the meantime Fragadelic has completely re-engineered his Remastersys software. Have not given the latest version a try.
You might find useful information in the Remastersys forum which does not mean you might not get help replies here as well. :wink:

Kind regards,
Karl

Thank you Karl for your reply!
I actually have visited in the Remastersys forum before for an answer. Unfortunately, it seems no one using the lastest version of mint had the same problem as me. But thanks!
