Help!

I installed Linux Mint Lisa on my netbook. Unfortunately, when using the Mate desktop the system did not suspend on lid closure. The recommended solution for this problem seemed to be upgrading Mate to the newest version.

Now, I can generally follow written directions pretty good, but something went horribly wrong when I tried to add the repository for the latest Mate desktop. In the process of trying to undo the damage, I seem to have messed up my software sources/repository settings.

How do I fix this?

On a positive note, the netbook still works.

Thanks!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi! You can discover the sources with
Code: Select all
 inxi -Sr
But I'm not sure where you'll find what they should be.

Okay, here is the output:

System: Host janice-1000HE Kernel 3.0.0-19-generic i686 (32 bit) Desktop N/A Distro Linux Mint 12 Lisa
Repos: Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ lisa upstream import main
deb-src http://packages.linuxmint.com/ lisa upstream import main #Added by software-properties
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-security main restricted universe multiverse

Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rednotebook-stable-oneiric.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/rednotebook/stable/ubuntu oneiric main

So, what should it look like?

What are the commands for updating to the latest distro?

Thanks!

I'm using Mint 11 Katya, so I can't tell you precisely what you should have there. But it looks about right. It has Lisa and Oneiric (Lisa is based on Oneiric) so I'd guess there's no problems there.

The newest release is Maya, but it's only available at Release Candidate status at the moment. Since the main editions of Mint are not rolling releases, you'll need to do a fresh install.
Hope this helps, regards
