I went in to Recovery mode to access the desktop and downloaded updates, activated my Nvidia driver from "additional drivers". I restarted and it seems to boot up just fine now. I went into the Nvidia X Server Settings to verify that it recognized both cards and displays and it does. Thanks for the assistance!

Thanks so much caribriz!! You were a tremendous help with this. I went ahead and installed Mint and, of course, it wouldn't boot up. After reading the threads you provided about the GTX 550 Ti, I took the advice of the first link and booted into compatibility mode and added nomodeset before the "--". That allowed me to boot into my Mint installation. I then went into Synatic and installed nvidia-current like that thread advised and after that Mint boots up without issue. Thanks again!
