not a fan of kde, I like Gnome, and like to tinker with e17, but KDE just annoys me

Yes, I have read it, and it is very good. A lot of good info in that wiki entry, as I pointed out above. :-)

Did you know that labels can also be used as unique identifiers? I didn't until just recently. I wonder if they give the same speed advantages?

hmm I'm not aware of speed advantages, only of a minimized risk for "name collisions" at the expense of a maximized risk for "naming errors"
Playing with labels can be disastrous - I had a Fedora labeled / and changed to Fedora to get a better view on my Mint desktop. Then Fedora did not boot even after I changed back to / :roll:

ok, I got averything fixed now, Im kind of happy it all happened, I learned alot about the fstab file, the way grub works, and I now know a bit more than I did before it all happened. Thank you guys for your help, and for writing the how to's you made, they helped me get my grub issues solved, ad how to edit and fix my fstab file.

The speed thing. I have read several articles that indicated that using UUIDs had a speed advantage when accessing data bases. Particularly in reference to MySQL. I have no personal experience to back this up however. And I admit, I don't see why this would be so. In fact, it seems to me that having to calculate the UUIDs would make a system slower but what do I know. :-)
