Is there no fix that can be added to the kernel itself, so those of us with new PC's with uefi can install linux? I really love Mint, And was extremely disappointed that after I build my new rig, I could no longer use it.

When starting the live-CD, I get a light grey screen with a white blinking cursor and nothing else (when I tried my Xubuntu live disk, first I got a black screen with several weird, coloured lines and then a black screen and a white, blinking cursor).
If I am understanding it correctly, I will lose my existing Vista installation, when trying to install Mint back (or Xubuntu)?

It worked like a charm. I didn't know about the existence of this new EFI thing, until I bought a new brand Packard Bell IMEDIA SI47777SP, and tried to install Linux Mint. You can imaging my panic face after the first reboot and the "Operating system not found" message![]()
Thank you very much for the detailed explanation!!
