RAID, Install.

Hello guys!

I am not new to linux but I am totally new to linux with RAID0.

I have 2 hard drives with RAID 0 , and Mint is able to find them both, but, it shoulden't find the two disks, it should find 1 disk with some partitions.

Windows find one hard drive, and it works perfect but Linux Mint seems to not understand that they are in RAID.

It questions me if I want to create a empty partition table one of the raid harddrives.


How to I make Mint see the raid harddrive and not the two physical discs?

This is a general problem
When you installed (not if in your case I presume) do you remember having to press F6?
This is because all consumer mobos have fake (or software) RAID and rely on Windows drivers to function
The kernel in Daryna has support for that but it does not work well
I don't really have a solution, and well working simple to configure RAID is on the wishlist

Hmm, I cant get it to work.

Can you please tell it in your own words how to do it? The other posts didnt help much

Linux mint looks nice, but is there any other distro with better support for raid in kernel?

OpenSUSE RAID worked seamlessly on an nVidia chipset (nvraid) based motherboard.
I basically threw in the towel using Linux raid on random home PC motherboards.
So, I just try to keep good backups these days.

Ole Erik,

There is no advantage to using mobo based fake RAID in Linux. It is not hardware RAID, but RAID in firmware, or software RAID.

Using Linux "md" software RAID is significantly faster than fake mobo RAID. That is why support for this type of RAID is not very popular. Look at the link below for further information.

Perhaps one day there will be a good GUI and easy Wizard for mdraid.
I spring for 3ware (+battery) when RAID is a must.
