Cannot install Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon - installer crash

Postby piedy on Sat Jul 28, 2012 6:47 am

Hi,

I'm trying to install Linux Mint 13 x64 Cinnamon edition alongside an existing Windows 7 installation. First, when I boot off the livecd, I simply get a grey screen with a flashing cursor. I then reboot and at the menu add "nomodeset" to the menu, which gets me into the livecd. However, when I then go and install, the installer crashes just after the partitioning screen. Suggestions?

For info, I have a 1Tb hard drive. 1x100Mb primary partition for WIndows 7 (created automatically), and 1x500Gb primary partition for WIndows 7. I want to install Linux MInt in the remaining 500Gb, as: /boot = 2000Mb (primary), / = 10000Mb (logical), swapdisk = 8000Mb (logical), /home=the rest (logical).

Many thanks.

Once booted into Linux Mint with the nomodeset option, open a terminal and run the following command. Share the output here for others to advise you on how to proceed.

You don't say so, but do I take it you are using the 'something else' option in the installer (ie manual partitioning) If not, this is the first thing I would try. If the installer still crashes then I would recommend pre-partitioning the disk using the live cd. I think it has still got gparted on it, but if not it will have some other disk partitioning software you can use.

Thanks for your reply.

Yep - done both of those things.

Chose "Something else" on partitioning screen, and manually defined partitions. Installer crash. Then, used gparted to delete the partitions that had been setup and chose "Alongside Windows 7". Installer crash also.

Remove ubiquity-slideshow-mint before an installation.
