I tried to install Mint Bea on my machine, but after (appearently) successfull install, the Grub Menu does not appear, only the program for command-line.
I have two HDs:
1. Windows and an extra partition for saving things (IDE 0, both NTFS)
2. Mint with 1 x ext3 and 1 x swap (IDE 1)
BUT: during linux install, Mint tells me that the second drive is hdc (shouldn't it be hdb? There is no other HD, but before install I had my ipod shuffle hooked up.)
In order to post here (I really am a beginner) I had to use my XP cd to fixmbr.
Does anyone know an elegant yet simple way of reinstalling Grub so that it works? I tried "root (hd2,0) - setup hd0" in Grub, but got an error message.
It was already the third install, so you see a desperat newbie before you.
Thanks
Stef
