Error after install saying / 100% full

Postby Wesdog on Wed Apr 23, 2008 8:47 am

I installed mint yesterday and have run into a small problem. After install when I boot in and try to do anything it says / is 100% full. I cant even open up firefox it gives me a message box saying that it will cause errors since / is full. I made these partitions

2gb swap
4gb /
40gb /home
~70gb fat32 to swap files with XP

Since I just installed should I go back in and reinstall adjusting the partition sizes or what? Its a fresh install so Im wondering why it would be full. Could importing my xp account settings have caused this? If I reinstall should I skip the import?

How do I look at whats in / in like a file explorer so I can see whats using up all that 4gb of space.

Which version are you using Main edition or any of the others?
My tip is 10GB for /
The other partitions look good to me.
For convenience you should consider mounting the fat32 partition in your home folder as "shared" or something equal.

Ok Ill go reinstall with 10gb on / . I dont remember seeing an option for shared when I made the fat32 partition but Ill look for it again. Mint installs pretty fast so this isnt too bad. Ill be back in a little while.

What I mean is, during partition set the fat32 mount point as /home/yourusername/shared - don't refomat it, and don't reformat /homr if you don't have to for some reason - sorry for being fuzzy!

Oh well I just installed yesterday and I dont have anything on there thats important. Actually I couldnt do anything so Im just reformatting everything and starting from scratch. I know I dont have to but its not going to hurt anything to do it.

So to make it shared I put a /home dir and then the shared part I mount as /home/username/shared even if I havent made a username yet right?

What I mean is that as long as I choose the username that I mount the /home/username/shared as then I will be able to access it in both mint and xp? Now I have

8.5GB /
35GB /home
75GB /home/username/shared
2GB /swap

Im ready to click next and install just waiting to make sure Im doing it right.

Thanks for the help. Ive got it installed, installed the ati driver, installed the first 40 updates, restarted, installed another 171 updates and now Im up to date I think. There will probably be another 200mb of updates after I restart though so Im going to put it off a while. You have some nice stuff on your deviantART page zwopper and linuxmint looks great keep up the good work.
